The Importance of Ongoing Coaching

Hosted by John Sandahl on October 21st, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am PDT

Despite the fact that people have been doing some form of team coaching for thousands of years, as a discipline, team coaching is still very new.

As a result, we team coaches are still having to re-create our own ideal process.

To this day, team coaching gets confused with similar interventions and initiatives that can help improve a team’s performance.

But if you’re going to do effective and impactful team coaching work, it’s going to have to take place over time.

Whether as individuals or as a team, no one gets in shape from one workout.

So teams need ongoing help to lock in the learning and practice the new behaviors. But what should that help look like?

Many of us have been a part of a “one-off” team session with a team coaching facilitator that had an impact in the form of changed behavior.

But very few have experienced the power of having that same facilitator or coach come back regularly to help us practice our skills and learn from our mistakes.

Meeting time is precious. We must be responsible with it and ensure that we’re providing maximum value to the teams that we’re working with.

So how can we help ensure that we’re doing the “right things” during an on-going team coaching session?

Join us this month as we answer that question and explore the following:

  • What are the most common/standard formats for on-going team coaching work?
  • What are the variables that can be effectively changed when planning and delivering an on-going coaching session?
  • The kinds of ancillary services that might be attached to the team coaching work.
  • Pitfalls and traps to avoid as you plan, pitch and deliver a team coaching experience.
  • Other things to consider in promoting and delivering on-going coaching work.
  • Tips for team coaches: exercises, practices and your contributions to a better understanding of this core competency
