System Aware: Making the Invisible, Visible

Hosted by John Sandahl on March 19th, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am PDT

A team is more than a collection of individual parts. Teams have personalities, history and a story that goes with it, unique beliefs and values.

More than that, teams create distinct rules of behavior that team members learn by observation or by subtle reward or punishment.

Most of the time, teams are unaware of their “teamness” and its impact on team performance.

To be effective as a team coach one must be able to see and hear below the surface of the conversation, because that’s where team dynamics become visible.

By making the invisible, visible, we give teams the ability to learn “how things are done around here” and decide if they want to make changes.

Awareness of the team as a system is a core competency for team coaches and the first of five team coaching competencies we will cover this year. Join us as we explore:

  • Real life examples of the power of the system to dictate behavior
  • What every new member of the team goes through to ensure safety and success
  • Coaching skills especially adapted to raising system awareness
  • How to help teams clarify team identity and leverage that insight
  • Tips for team coaches: exercises, practices and your contributions to a better understanding of this core competency

By viewing this webinar you’ll gain valuable insights and actionable tips for how to increase system awareness on teams.
