The Differences Between Individual & Team Coaching

Hosted by John Sandahl on June 17th, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 9:15 am PDT

Individual coaching as an industry has finally started to come of age, with high support for the basic idea of coaching in some form in nearly all larger and many smaller organizations.

However – “team coaching” is still a relatively new and challenging idea for many teams out there to say nothing of the leaders who might be interested in hiring a team coach to help their team.

And this is true despite the ROI of Team coaching often far surpassing Individual coaching work.

Because many leaders think they understand coaching and assume all coaching is the same – they may have an uninformed idea or opinion of what team coaching is and how it can serve clients.

Certainly, people’s miss perceptions of sports team coaching can color their opinions and understanding.

In addition to that – team coaches share the added burden of correcting people’s assumptions about the various kinds of “team interventions” that a coach or consultant might use: team facilitation, team building or bonding and even change management can get thrown around in the minds of people who are looking to help their teams.
