Junkie/Shadow exercise:
Have participants identify their innate “gift” as it relates to working with others. Has been with them for a long time. Almost conditional response when they interact with one or more people trying to create value.
Have them describe this gift or strength and how it creates value
then have them describe what happens when they press this gift into overdrive (most often under pressure) and what the results are and what the responses are from others and themselves.
Very insightful as people go around the room and share their junkie/shadow and begin to understand why they get frustrated or fearful or sad when their gift is not working as it should and seeing the response from others which is mostly frustration that they are being “confined” to this way of working and are not able to contribute their own junkie/gift.
Vulnerability starts to appear and people see each other as well intentioned vs. undermining or controlling.
