Enhancing Team Decision-Making using Creative Thinking Exercises

Clear decision-making will always be fundamental to any teams success.
Often Team Leaders need to collaborate with the team and ensure processes
are in place to ensure clear decisions are made.

But how do Team Leaders or Coaches utilize the maximum potential of their team?
How can they effectively tap into their combined intelligence and wisdom?
The answer is Creative Thinking.

As Coaches, one of the beliefs that we have is that our clients are naturally
creative. And if individuals are creative, it follows that teams must be
collectively creative too.

Brainstorming is a creative practice traditionally used by teams to discover new
ideas and solutions to their problems.

There are no rules when it comes to creative thinking, and this level of thinking
often changes the perception of a problem and can even create an opportunity never
seen before.

Here are a few ideas that you can use to stimulate creativity in your team coaching:

– Getting out of your the usual routine. Diversify the day to day experience in the
team. Hold a brainstorming session in a completely different location, outside the usual
places. Research shows that new creative ideas come from diversifying experience.

– Encouraging teams to ‘Play’. Teams that are more playful are more engaged are also more

– Free up time for the team for Creativity. Research shows that we can’t be creative when we’re
too busy. Creativity requires our minds to be free to wander, and not be distracted by day to day
business affairs, technology, phones etc.
