Exercise : Values in 1 minute

The purpose of this exercise is to find with all teammembers 3 shared values underwritten by the team.
This activity enhances collaboration, communication, openness and trust.

    Instruction :
    Time : 1 minute + discussion afterwards

    Material
    Flipchart, post-its

    Process
The exercise must be done before explaining the model
Participant standing in de meeting room or outside.

Every participant receives 1 post-it. The question asked by the teamcoach is ‘what is for you the most important value with respect to a team, team collaboration, working together ?’. Participants have 1 minute to write down the value on a post-it. Important to say is that the teamcoach adds that the word ‘collaboration’ can not be used as a value, because it’s all about collaboration. It’s about the value that brings a group working together.

    Why 1 minute ?
Easy question. Participants get only 1 minute because they have to decide quicker and the subconsciousness will eventually make the decision. In addition, participants can not influence the other participants or start talking to the other team members.
Once the value has been written down, the participant put the post-it put on the flip chart.
Finally every participant gives an explanation. Questions can be asked by the team.
p.e. ‘what do you mean by trust ? or openness ?’ and ‘why is this so important to you ?’
A top 3 shared values is made and put on flip chart.
The teamcoach can come back to the values later in the process (perhaps one of the values is a productivity or positivity factor).
