A good exercise to train the mind-set of the team
Assign the team to plan this year’s Christmas party. Divide the team into two
groups and ask them to go all in when they plan the party – the sky is the limit.
All participants shall contribute to the planning and the outcome is supposed to
be the most spectacular and amazing Christmas part ever. The party suggestions
are to be presented to the other group.
Give one group the instruction that whenever a suggestion is presented from the
other group they should reply with “Yes, and…”
The other group is given the instruction to reply with “Yes, but…” whenever a
suggestion is presented from the other group.
Listen to the difference and what happens when suggestions are met with
Yes, and compared to
Yes, but. Also compare the party ideas, which group’s party seems to be the most fun to attend?
The goal of the exercise is to encourage the creativity of the team by replying
Yes, and to ideas and suggestions. This will increase the feeling of being listened to
and participants will boost other individuals in the group.
