Introductory Pre-TDA Team Exercise – Optimism
Objective: Introductory exercise to meet the team, introduce the TCI model and start building optimism for the team’s possible improvements during the team development program.Context: When launching a team development program, it is critical to attain the team’s buy in to the process (meeting with the team leader and/or executive sponsor is not enough). After the engagement agreement is executed but before the team receives the Team Diagnostic Assessment, I schedule a 30 to 60 minute meeting with the entire team. The agenda is as follows:

Welcome / Program Purpose / Team Coach Intro (led by Team leader)Context for Today’s Meeting – purpose is to: (led by team coach)
– Get to know each other
– Introduce the team development program
– Have some fun together (camaraderie building)
– As a team, start identifying areas you’d like to see improve
– Start seeing the possibilities for your team in the future (build optimism)Team Development Experiences (led by team coach)
– What types of team development have you done in the past?
– What did you like? Not like?Best Team Experience (led by team coach)
– Talk with the person next to you – what was the best team you ever experienced? What were the characteristics of that team that made it successful?
– As a large group, debrief what you talked about – what were those characteristics?
– Now that you’ve had a chance to see what makes up high-performing teams, what is possible for THIS team during the team development program we’re about to start?High-level Program Objectives (led by team coach)
– Objectives of the team development program as identified by the team leader or executive sponsor
– What else would YOU as a team like to work on during the next ___ months of the team development program, so that you can become that high-performing team that we just talked about in the “Best Team” exercise?Team Diagnostic Assessment™ Overview (led by team coach)
– TCI / TDA model of 7 Productivity and 7 Positivity factors
– Overview of the TDA process (when the e-mail links will be sent, what to do if you do not receive one, etc.)
– Special mention: there will be 3-5 open-ended questions at the end of the 80 standardized questions. Please note that everything you write in those sections will appear in the final team report VERBATIM that we will review as a team, so be respectful and speak to any issues/concerns at the team level. For example, this is not the time to publicly state that you don’t like your team leader’s choice of socks!
