The productivity strength, Alignment includes the description “there is a sense of common mission and purpose”. I’ve often found that teams aren’t always clear about their mission and/or purpose for a variety of reasons and have used the exercise below to improve understanding and clarity.
Team Purpose – Definition Exercise
Use a combination of brainstorming, prioritization and selection to define the purpose, accountabilities and outcomes of this team.
1. What is the purpose of our team?
2. Who are our team’s customers?
3. Who are our team’s key stakeholders?
4. What are the accountabilities of our team (vs. individuals)?
5. What are the specific outcomes for our team?
6. How will we measure our success?
