Team Building Exercise –The Maze
I got this from a respected facilitator and I thought it was spot on for assessing the culture / system of as team as well as highlighting positivity (supportive) versus productivity behaviors under pressure. If you try it, please let me know how goes. I don’t have the opportunity to try it just yet.

I’ve done versions of this exercise before and it’s fun. I didn’t do the dollar penalties but I like it as a score keeping device for a team that likes to keep score. It presents LOADS of opportunities for a team to demonstrate “how it works”. There are actually full electronic versions of this maze that can be used to make it more like a “minefield” out there.

One interesting twist is to split the team into two groups and have half on either end and tell them that their job is to solve the maze. Often this geography creates an assumption of two different teams (though you clearly did not set it up that way) and they may even turn it into a competition and actively try and sabotage the “other teams” efforts.

As with any activity – how we show up is what’s useful.
