    Practice of Authenticity is a way of promoting constructive interaction among each other.

    Facilitation points for teaching Authenticity:

    • Authenticity is a “Practice” NOT a way of being – We have to choose it.
    • Authenticity builds Credibility.
    • Influence effort are Inversely proportional to your credibility
    • Authenticity creates “Movement” through the building blocks of Trust
    • It is an Adaptive skill

    The session has 2 parts. Part 1 applies to the individual embracing authenticity and Part 2 applies to the team, as a whole, embracing authenticity. budget about 70 mins for Part 1 and 90 mins for Part 2. Together about 3 hrs including check in and check out. This can be a topic of one Team Coaching session.

    PART 1: WHAT IS AUTHENTICITY AND HOW DOES IT SHOW UP IN MY LIFE?

    Ex1: What is Authenticity? – 10 mins
    – Write (in the chat box) what comes to your mind when you think of the word “Authenticity” 5 min
    – Plenary : 5 min what do you Notice

    Plenary Discussion: Role of Authenticity in the workplace? – 10 Min
    – What is your stand on the need for ‘authenticity’ in the workplace?
    – What tangible benefits does it have on Your self (well being)? On your Teams (Trust and Collaboration)?

    Ex2: 2 Staged individual reflection followed by pair share (5 + 5 +20)

    Stage 1: Think of a time when you “chose” to be Authentic –
    • what was the situation,
    • what did you DO,
    • how did you feel and
    • what impact did it have on your surroundings

    Stage 2: Think of a time when you “chose” NOT to be Authentic

    • what was the situation?
    • what did you DO?
    • how did you feel?
    • what impact did it have on your surroundings?

    What was your MOTIVATION to Choose Authenticity
    What was your RESISTANCE to NOT choose Authenticity

    Pair share: 10 mins each way – 20 mins total – discuss your motivation and resistance to being authentic / straight with others?

    Plenary: 10 mins
    – What did you notice?
    – What are your points of motivation and resistance?

    PART 2: HOW CAN WE AS A TEAM BE MORE AUTHENTIC WITH EACH OTHER AND PRACTICE CONSTRUCTIVE INTERACTIONS?

    Plenary: Eastablishing ways in which team authenticity can be practiced (15 mins)

    Three “Arenas” for building Authenticity Practice in a TEAM
    1. Sharing your WHY – (keep remembering your Ikigai and keep communicating it often)
    2. Having Courageous conversation – Saying what you want to say (use NVC – your needs, tuning in to the needs of the other)
    3. Being Vulnerable (Sharing your fears and asking for help )

    Ex 1: Individual reflection followed by pair share (10 +20)

    2. On having courageous conversations

    3. On being vulnerable

    – The impact on the team is
    – My practices
    Costs
    – I will feel

    – Practices to prevent me from doing that

    Ex 2: Group discussion – Insights from the reflection – 30 mins
    – in Triads (15 mins each way – what insights do I have from the reflection? what practices am I going to engage in?)
    – Plenary: 5 – 6 people share, ‘what do you notice from what people have shared?’

    Ex 3: Group discussion – Norms for Authenticity – 20 mins
    – After having heard the others, what accountability norms can be have around authenticity and constructive interaction?

    Each group presents 1 – 2 norms. Leaders hears everyone out and makes the final decision on norms governing authenticity and constructive interaction.
