Values from individuals to teams (reserve 90mn in total)
Exercise 1: Identifying personal values (30mn)
– Read the following visualisation to the group. Ask them to be relaxed and just be in the experience (5mn).
1st do a quick body scan for people to re-center then read read the following text:Turn the clock back and remember a time in your life when you felt your full power —a time when your spine, arms, and fingertips were tingling with excitement,
a time when you didn’t care what anyone thought of you. You were fully alive! (Pause)
Questions: Where were you? What were you doing? Who was around you? What was occurring in them at that time? What was your impact on them?– Give a few minutes for people to journal about the experience and write was was important for them.
– Break the group into pairs to discuss their experience (10mn), give them the below questions as a guideline for the conversation.
• What was important?
• What was the feeling?
• What values were present?
• What do you know now?– Ask people to share in the larger group their learning (10mn)
Ask the group to give a definition of ‘values’. Write it down on a white board for everyone to see ask the group to give some examples of values.
Exercise 2: Team Values exercise (45 mn)
– Break the group into groups of 4 and ask the groups to discuss their personal values (30mn).Use the below questions as a guideline:
• What are they?
• What are the most important values for you @ work?Instructions:
Gather with your group’s individual values and write them on the post it notes provided– In the whole group, put all post it notes on the wall and define the top 5 values for the team (15mn)
Instructions:
Everyone has 3 votes. Ask everyone to vote on their most important top 3 values.
Adjust at the end to end up with the top 5 for the team and check people resonate with the values that have been chosenExercise 3: Wrap Up (15 min)
