Time needed: 2-5-minute at the beginning of a session or any time during the session when focus is needed.
Target Group: Can be used on most teams – perhaps not on those that are very low in positivity.
Why: Ground & focus team members. Bring the attention to what is happening in the room.

If a coach notices that the attention of the team is dispersed, mirroring back to the team and asking a question can bring awareness to the situation.
“I notice that the focus of the team is dispersed – can you share with your team what is on your mind?”

If the team needs more grounding/focus here is an easy & powerful exercise.

“Sit upright – but not stiff – with both feet on the floor and close your eyes. If you find it uncomfortable to close your eyes – just gaze downwards.
Let’s take 3 deep breaths – the deepest breaths you have taken today.
Now call to mind a person in your life that you are grateful for. (Pause for reflection…)
What is it about this person that you are grateful for? (…)
Now let’s bring this closer to where we are today – and think about what it is about your team that you are grateful for. (…)
And if we bring this even closer – What are you grateful for in yourself? (…)

When you are ready you can stretch and open your eyes.”

Perhaps a reflection “I noticed a smile on some faces”

    Possible follow-up questions:
“Anything you would like to share with your team?”
“What do you notice about your team now?”
